Board of Directors
Michael Degan was elected to the Stuart Dean Board of Directors in 1999 and serves on the Nominating and Compensation & Benefits Committees.
Michael is partner and executive producer of Nonfiction Unlimited, a bicoastal production company specializing in television commercials and film projects for international advertisers such as Bank of America, Coca-Cola, Burger King, Ford, Microsoft, and the U.S. Navy.
Before joining the production community, he was a principal at Innovative Services, a computer consulting firm working with entrepreneurs and small businesses to create proprietary software systems. Earlier in his career, Michael worked for Stuart Dean, starting in the California division and then serving as manager of the marble and stone division in New York City. He later became manager of the Boston division. In 1989, he opened Stuart Dean’s San Francisco office.
Scott was elected to the Stuart Dean Board of Directors in 2001 and serves as chairman of the Audit Committee.
He has 20 years of experience building high-growth, venture-backed companies. Scott currently serves as chief financial officer of Viator, Inc., the world’s leading online site for planning, researching and booking travel experiences. He is also a general partner at Flagship Partners, a private investment firm focused on early-stage software-as-a-service companies.
Previously, Scott was the chief executive officer of WageWorks, where he helped grow the company into the largest provider of consumer-directed health spending and savings accounts. During his time at WageWorks, the company was twice rated among the top 30 in Inc. magazine’s list of the 500 fastest-growing private companies. Prior to WageWorks, he was the chief operating officer of eBenX, a publicly traded company that provides health and welfare benefits administration services to large and mid-sized employers.
Scott holds a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University and an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
President and Chief Executive Officer (Interim)
Jim has served Stuart Dean in a variety of capacities during the course of his career. This is his second tour as Chief Executive Officer, having formerly held the position between 2002 and 2011. Prior to that, Jim had served as Chief Operating Officer, Vice President and General Manager, Sales Manager, and began his career nearly thirty years ago as a salesman in the company’s Chicago office. Since 2002, he has continuously served as a member of the Board of Directors, where he serves on all five committees and chairs two (Investment and Nominating). After completing his MBA in 1993, Jim worked for four years for the Tetra Laval Corporation as an account manager, where his clients included Ocean Spray, Cadbury Schweppes, Arizona Beverages, Austin Nichols and several other internationally distinguished brands.
Jim earned an MBA from the University of Chicago, with twin concentrations in finance and marketing, in addition to earning a Bachelor of Arts degree with twin majors in Economics and History from Northwestern University.
Timothy was elected to the Stuart Dean Board of Directors in 2002 and is chairman of the Compensation & Benefits Committee.
He is president of Assa Abloy Hospitality, a global division of the Stockholm-based Assa Abloy Company. The company’s Hospitality Division is the world leader in hotel security technology with products installed in more than 42,000 properties worldwide, securing in excess of 7 million hotel rooms. The Division consists of 17 international business units coupled with local distribution networks serving 155 countries around the world.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Lehigh University and an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Robert T. Cook
Robert has served as Stuart Dean’s chief financial officer since 2006. In this role, he is responsible for cost control and forecasting, strategic planning, and operational and corporate third-party services.
Robert is a certified public accountant with more than 25 years experience in the financial industry. Prior to joining Stuart Dean, he held positions at KPMG; Siemens AG; and as divisional CFO for Omnicom, an international advertising conglomerate.
Robert holds a Bachelor of Arts in accounting from Adelphi University.
Chris has served on the Stuart Dean Board of Directors since May 2010.
He is currently co-owner and vice president of operations and development for Razzoo’s, Inc., overseeing restaurant operations in the company’s home market of Dallas, Texas. His development responsibilities involve site selection, lease negotiation/execution for new restaurant units as well as coordination of the design and construction phases for new stores and renovation projects.
Chris holds a Bachelor of Science from the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University.
Edward Gargiulo, Jr.
Edward was elected to the Stuart Dean Board of Directors in 2010.
He is vice president of east coast asset management and acquisitions at Petrus Partners, Ltd., a mid-sized private equity commercial real estate firm based in New York. For Petrus’ east coast portfolio, Edward oversees all acquisitions, asset management, property management and leasing. His responsibilities also include oversight of all local management teams, architects, general contractors and legal firms. Prior to joining Petrus, Edward was a director of leasing for Tishman Speyer Properties, where he oversaw leasing for approximately 5 million square feet in Midtown Manhattan.
Edward earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brown University, an MBA from New York University, and also sits on the board of directors of St. Peter’s Preparatory in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Jeff has served on the Stuart Dean Board of Directors since May 2011.
He works for Logiways, a French start-up based in Paris that specializes in software and hardware for the pay TV industry, where he is documentation manager.
Prior to his role with Logiways, Jeff worked for a number of international technology companies, most notably DoubleClick and Philips corporations.
He lives in France with his wife and two daughters.
Bruce Hallett was elected to the Stuart Dean Board of Directors in March 2011.
He serves as CEO of Murdoch Books, a publisher based in Sydney, Australia. Prior to this role, he was president of MyPublisher, an Internet-based photo book publisher based in New York. He also served as a consultant to a variety of companies, including Institutional Investor, News Corp and Veria. Bruce’s professional experience also includes an impressive career with Time-Warner, where he was president of Time Magazine and Sports Illustrated. Hallett also served as managing director of Time, Inc. Magazines Pty., Ltd.
A graduate of Princeton and Columbia Business School, he has served as a trustee of Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire.
Elaine joined the Stuart Dean Board of Directors in August 2012.
She has extensive management experience in the retail industry and is currently the owner of The Curtain Exchange of New Orleans, a retail specialty store that offers high-end, custom-made and ready-made window coverings.
Prior to this, Elaine served in roles of increasing responsibility at ADDCO Metal Maintenance Co. in New Orleans as an account representative and operations manager. She also served as an independent contractor at Applied Design in New York, which offers design services and technical support for the application of designs on architectural metals; and as a sales representative at both ADDCO Metal Maintenance Co. and at Stuart Dean. Elaine began her career as an assistant buyer at Godchaux’s in New Orleans.
She studied history at Georgian Court College in Lakewood, NJ.
